Moisture content is the biggest factor affecting performance. Good firewood should feel light and dry, sound hollow when tapped, and show signs of natural cracking / peeling. 

Our tonne bags include a mixture of soft and hardwood, meaning easy ignition, as well as long-lasting burning conditions and a high heat-output.

  • Seasoned, low moisture content firewood is the most ideal option as it means lower soot-build up, longer burn times and reduced fuel waste. If possible, buy logs with a moisture content lower than 20%.

    You’ll likely be able to notice the difference, as higher-moisture logs burn faster, create more smoke and waste energy boiling away excess water.

  • For open fires and log burners, hardwood performs better than softwood due to its density. It burns hotter, lasts longer and it's the cleaner choice for indoor heating. Softwood is typically better for ignition and quick heat, more suited to outdoor fires. Our tonne bags contain a practical mixture of both.

  • It’s a flat £20 extra upon delivery, and our team will stack your wood neatly for you.
